Sphynx cat personalities from our experience is if you combined a cat and a dog together. They are highly intelligent, curious, affectionate and love to please their human companions. Sphynx's are extremely outgoing, crave attention and will want to be involved in watching everything you do. They enjoy having other companions besides just humans because of the curious personalities. If you have a blanket and a place you sit at, your companion will love to enjoy your company and sneak in under a blanket. They are a velcro cat that is always full of love and wanting to make you smile.
Shpynx cats have a unique appearance due to not having fur which requires a little more maintenance compared to the average cat. All household cats have sweat and oils that are on their body, but due to the Shpynx not having fur, they appear to get dirtier looking easier. We recommend that all companions to receive a bath at least once every couple of weeks to ensure that they are healthy and happy. This will also depend on how much oil and sweat you Shpynx will produce so you may or may not have to bathe as frequent.
Bathing time is a great time to bond with your companion. We recommend using a warm wet cloth to wash down your companion with Baby Shampoo. From our own experience, we have seen that Baby Shampoo works best with the Sphynx skin not having any reaction to it. Some soaps may or may not irritate your companions skin. When bathing, gently massage your companion all over to remove any dirt on their skin and then proceed to rinse all the soap off with warm water. After drying your companion, this is a good time to trim nails and clean their ears. Depending on your companion their nails may or may not grow fast. It’s best to maintain with nail trimming to insure the likelihood of accidently scratching you or getting caught on anything. When nail trimming, it is important to be careful that you do not trim too short! Not only will this hurt your companion, this might make them hesitant for the next time you do trimming. Lastly, your companion will need their ears cleaned. Because they have no fur, their ears become dirty fast. When cleaning their ears, be sure not to put a Q-tip too far in. Cleaning the dirt out of the outer part of ears is best so you don’t hurt your companion. It is always best to consult with you Vet if you are not sure how to do it.
